Welcome to 2020-2021 PreK!
August 30, 2020
Hello and welcome to my class! If you have not joined my class on Dojo, please send me an email and I will invite you again (via email). My email address is hgersz@westbrookctschools.org.
We, the PreK team, have researched and have been planning on how to play keep your child safe and how to maintain social distancing. Toys and manipulatives will be cleaned and rotated daily to ensure safety. If you would like more specifics on how we plan on doing this, please contact me and I will explain further.
Once we are all connected to Dojo, I will post pictures and stories for you to view throughout the week. This Dojo classroom can only be viewed by our classroom and co teachers (our principal, classroom paras and service providers). There will be a live stream during parts of the day for our Distance Learners. The camera will be on me and viewers will be able to hear student voices.
It's going to be a great year! I can't wait to get to know you and your little one!

Weekly update and note
June 8, 2020
Good morning!! I hope everyone had a restful weekend. This is our last week of school, finishing up on Thurs. I believe parents will be sent an email from Mrs. Rose letting you know that there will be a 'pick up' on Thurs afternoon for PreK to take home belongings from the classroom. In your bags will be activities that were hanging in the room and art activities. If students had extra clothes or bathroom items, those will also be packaged. I added a book for each child to enjoy over the summer!
As I wrote on Dojo, I will miss each and everyone of your children and I have missed teaching them these past few months. I am happy that everyone is safe, but I wish things could have been different! Please have a safe summer and keep in touch!

Extension activity; Find 1-10 objects and count them, depending on ability. Each child is different, so get a baseline of what your child is capable of and work from there. If you child can count to 3, find multiple items of 3 and count those a few times. If your child can count to 1, encourage your child to find an object and say '1 rock'. Build the skill depending on your own child's ability. It will be fun for you to see the growth over a few days/weeks :)

Class book
Hi Parents,
Your child is becoming a published author!
Our students have been hard-at-work writing and illustrating a one-of-a-kind book!
When you pre-order online you can save $2 on the purchase of a hardcover book. Simply go to www.studentreasures.com/
You'll love seeing your child's writing and illustrations captured in this treasured keepsake and watching their face light up when they bring home this high-quality book.
Sincerely,
P.S. Be sure to ask your child what they wrote about!

I am spending this time home with my two children, my husband and my dog. I am sure that each of them will be a part of a live feed when I am comfortable with this. We are washing our hands, coughing into our elbow, and practicing 'social distancing'... that is a fancy word for 'keeping your own space'. I have been taking daily walks with Bidwell, meditating, playing basketball with Bowen, and emerging myself into my hobbies. I have been cooking a lot and I made a set of curtains for a room in my house! Oh.. and rock painting.
Packet update
Last Thursday the preK team assembled a packet for each child to take home. This packet included a wide range of ideas across multiple domains. This packet was to assist you (as the adult) to continue to bring structure into your child's day and provide you with ideas for home learning. Lucky our preK kiddos are sponges and will soak up all new learning...be it a new bug they found under a rock, or how to take turns with the IPad, or how to recover from a stressful situation in a timely fashion, or how to sort their socks. I will be adding to this web page with new ideas and new learning daily, beginning on Monday. I would love for your feedback on this page and for ideas you are interested in while teaching your child.
