March News

Here are some Kindergarten skills to work on:

Practice your sight word cards, decode and read CVC words (hat, hut, lot...)

Practice adding numbers up to 10.

Read your reading workshop books.

Write a story about your day! Use beginning, middle and end.

Reading

Your child will grow as a reader this year! We'll begin by focusing on our phonemic awareness skills and learning specific letters and sounds. Come Winter, we will begin blending to read and write CVC words together. As the year progresses, students will be reading and building sentences with an uppercase letter to start and a punctuation mark to end each sentence.

We'll take part in Reading Workshop every afternoon, as students learn skills and strategies to become SUPER READERS! Kindergarten readers will be thinking about their reading continuously!

By the end of Kindergarten, your child should be able to:

*recognize and produce rhyming words

*clap syllables

* point to words when they read

*use picture clues and the first letter of words to figure out words

*segment and blend 3 letter words

*answer story questions (setting, character, problem, solution, etc.)
